Hi Anania's,
I'm new to the neighborhood and I just wanted to say thank you for the times you've already cured spurts of hangry-ness, prepared me for road trips, fulfilled my need for wine, and helped me feed hungry guests. We will be seeing a lot of each other in the years to come and I'm thankful you're in my neighborhood. I'm a fan of your Italians and I'm glad you have wraps on the menu. You are a great neighborhood spot for quick to-go eats and maybe some Ben and Jerrys. See you soon! -

The time may come in the future where I update this review, but this is my first time at this location.
If, like me, you hunger for thin and crispy onion rings that seem to have barely touched any kind of batter before they were fried; this is a good place to get onion rings. Very lightly battered, cut very thin, fried very crisp. And yet not over oily.
The italian...
Arguments about what you should actually call this type of Sandwich aside, within Southern Maine there are still several varieties of it. I'm happy to say that I have sampled quite a few of them. In my mind and in my heart, I believe they are all trying to live up to Amato's. Some get closer than others.
This is, as sandwhiches go, perfectly acceptable. No bad flavours or obviously cheap ingredients. That said, the bread tastes slightly stale, in a dry/chewy way which brings down the whole experiance for me. I accept it might be a bad night or a bad batch of bread, so I'll be back to try other stuff and get more onion rings at least. -

This is my second review. I was hoping the new owners would work out the kinks and get it right, but they clearly haven't. I have the worst sandwich of my entire life last night. Again, I tried for the egg plant Parmesan. It was all breading, and almost no egg plant. There is almost no sauce, and again... Where was the cheese? There is a thin layer on the top of the sandwich which was paperthin. It's just horrible. They still won't answer their phone. I hope the original owners remove their name from that restaurant soon.

I have been in this location twice. The first time I was with two friends, we all ordered and theres came out first. Mine however took so long that my friends had already eaten there food. I wouldnt complain if the burger was actually worth it which in this case it was not. Wendys honestly would have been better.
Second time I went in with my wife who loves sandwich shops. We waited.... and waited....mean while one girl was behind the counter i think working? Saw me and said nothing. The second woman also saw us said nothing and grabbed her cell phone. We wait....wait....yup still waiting. Finally my wife walks out. We will not go back again. -

Visiting Maine for the first time in six years, I had a hankering for an Italian sandwich so I brought my husband here to grab lunch. He is from Montana and does not understand the greatness of the Italian sandwich, so he ordered a steak and cheese instead. He took one bite and said, "Wow," and then he didn't say another word until the entire sandwich was gone. My husband also did not know about the greatness of the whoopie pie, so we got two of those and he ate all of his and half of mine. ("See?!?!" I told him.) Can't beat these classic Maine foods, and Anania's is the place to get them.
